By June 1975, Paul Sub closed The Coventry and reopened it as Aretama—a salsa nightclub that rode the explosive wave of Latin music sweeping New York City. Aretama became a Queens hotspot during the golden age of salsa, rivaling Manhattan’s Palladium and Cheetah Club. Johnny Pacheco, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, Bobby Rodriguez, and a roster of legends all took the stage and hung out. For the Latin community in Queens and beyond, Aretama was the place where identity, music, and nightlife converged.
The Aretama chapter is central to Season 2 of the Echoes of Coventry podcast—expanding the story from rock into the broader cultural revolution that Paul Sub helped ignite across multiple genres and communities. Somehow, the Manhattan Venues got all the glory and publicity and the Coventry/Aretama story has never been properly told. Sound Dog Properties LLC owns the intellectual property, the productions, and the platform to bring this story to the world—across multiple mediums.
Sound Dog Properties is building long-term IP with multiple monetizable arms—audio, visual, live, merchandise, and cultural partnerships. Every production reinforces the others. One story. Five revenue streams. Infinite shelf life.
The cultural appetite for music origin stories, 1970s New York nostalgia, and authentic counter-culture narratives is surging—across every demographic and every platform. The market isn’t just ready. It’s hungry.
Comparable properties tell the story. The Defiant Ones won an Emmy. Pistol reignited vinyl sales for the Sex Pistols. Studio 54’s documentary became a Sundance breakout and drove cross-industry interest in 1970s nightlife. ABBA Voyage proved that IP-led live events can tour, scale, and monetize through ticketing, merch, and brand sponsorships.
Sound Dog Properties sits at the intersection of all of these trends—with an untold story that has first-mover advantage and a multi-platform strategy designed for long-tail revenue.
