Echoes of Coventry, a brand new documentary-style podcast, pulls back the curtain on one of the most influential yet overlooked venues in New York City music history: the Coventry a.k.a. the Popcorn Pub in Sunnyside, Queens.

In the early 1970s, before CBGB or Max’s Kansas City dominated headlines, The Coventry offered a stage to over 500 bands with no record deals, no gimmicks, just original sound. Groups like KISS, The New York Dolls, and members of the Ramones played some of their earliest gigs there. The venue became a launchpad for the era’s rising glam, glitter, and punk movement, all thanks to an immigrant family who fled the Holocaust and landed in New York, running a rock club on instinct and entrepreneurship.

Check out what some of the Sound Dogs have been up to, Echoes of Coventry, a new podcast that dives into lead singer Charlie’s childhood growing up in the iconic Coventry/Popcorn Pub, the place that inspired so much of their music.
